Robyn was born on the 29th of February 1976 and after finishing school joined the very fertile ground for producing jockeys and trainers of racehorse trainer Gary Moore at Woodingdean near Brighton.
Robyn later became apprenticed to Gary Moore and had his first ride aged 19, a year later at Warwick Racecourse on the 20th of July 1996 at the age of 20 Robyn manged to ride that illustrious first winner on Whatever’s Right.
Robyn soon realized there are very few horses without some conformation faults however small and if he wanted to be a successful racehorse trainer he needed to learn how to train around them.
Robyn spent his years as a jockey evaluating the conformation of the horses and their faults and how they were trained to get the best out of the horse while keeping them in one piece.
Robyn joined Nick Littmoden as assistant trainer in February 2015 and took over the reigns as trainer in December the same year when Littmoden decided to retire. Robyn trained from Cadland Cottage Stables in Newmarket as a salaried trainer for the Curran’s of Gazeley Stud.
Robyn trained his first runners in 2016 and went on to train 12 winners from just 87 runners with 12 seconds, 10 thirds and 12 fourths. The highlights of the year came when winning £25,000 handicaps at Chelmsford City Racecourse 2 days in a row firstly with Queensbrydge and then Magnus Maximus.
.In 2017 Robyn trained 9 winners in Britain and one winner in France with the highlight being Zyzzyva winning in Deauville, France and then running in the Group 3 in Chantilly, France being beaten only half a length into 3rd and looking the winner until 50 yards from the line.
At the end of 2017 Robyn split from the Curran’s and went out on his own training from the other side of Newmarket with 18 stables at Cleveland House on the Hamilton Road. It was not long before he was in the winners by June 2018 having sent out 7 winners from just 59 runners. The stables then suffered from a virus that seemed to affect a large section of Newmarket trainers in the summer of 2018.
In December 2018 Robyn finally moved away from Newmarket due to the lack of expansion opportunities in Newmarket and exchanged it for the fresh country air of Danethorpe, Nottinghamshire. Robyn now trains from the 70 plus stables of proven state of the art facilities at the Hilltop Equestrian Centre with private gallops and an equine swimming pool.
Robyn has settled in straight away with a solid strike rate and also 2yr old winners within his first 6 months of moving into his new yard and FTF Racing are hoping for plenty more success in the future.
