FTF Racing headed to Goffs UK Doncaster in search of next years 2yr old winners to follow on from EPONA and AMBYFAEIRVINE.
We feel there’s plenty of value to be had from the silver sale as the trade the first two days is always pretty strong, generally agents and trainers have normally filled there orders in the first two days.
This year we have concentrated more on first year sires and mostly speedier sires who hit the racecourse early on in there careers. This narrows our search down so were able to concentrate on what is going to suit us as a syndicate.
Our first purchase was a lovely filly by Adaay, Adaay was an expensive breeze up purchase who won on debut a month after being sold from the craven breeze up sale. Obviously with Adaay being a breeze up horse he was ready to run very early in his 2yr old career also being the son of kodiac certainly makes him a early speedier type. We feel this will translate to his off spring and looking at them they look very racy and ticked plenty of boxes.
The filly is 1/2 sister to two horses in training SHEISDIESEL by Harbour watch. She debuted as a 2yr old in April and went and got beat by a head as a 2yr old in June. She was certainly early by a sire who wouldn’t have to many early types. She is now rated 84 and looks like she hasn’t stopped winning just yet. Her other 1/2 sister BOW BELLES by Kyllachy also debuted in April as a 2yr old and went on to win once and place 3 times as a 2yr old eventually been rated 76.
Putting the pieces together knowing what the family have achieved, what Adaay did on track early on in his career and what the filly looked and moved like she certainly gives us a huge chance and represents great value.
It was never our intention to buy two yearlings by the same sire but our second purchase was a cracking colt by Adaay. This lad we had viewed a few times and we honestly thought we wouldn’t be able to afford him due to the way he looked/walked and his page been full of class and black type.
This lad went through the sales ring unsold, Now at any other sale alarm bells would ring but due to the fact the sale was very quiet everyone had spent up and gone home we weren’t that bothered that he had gone unsold. In fact it put us in a better position to buy him for what we thought was the right price.
His dam won her 2yr old maiden in April went on to run at royal ascot and then won the super sprint at newbury which says shes all speed and her off spring who are by what we would call speedier sires have done well enough as 2yr olds winning and placing. We feel adding a fresh speedier sire like Adaay to her speed we could have a really sharp 2yr old on our hands. He is closely related to 100 plus horse Kynren and also the horses on his second dams page ooze class such as BALMONT MAST, PREMIER LOCO + GREGORIAN.
We have sent both yearlings to ROBYN BRISLAND who has recently moved up to Mick Applebys old yard Danethorpe in Newark. Since moving to his new yard he has a 18% strike rate with horses 4yr old plus and has trained his first 2yr old winner from the yard which won first time out for him. We feel Robyn is a great addition to our training roster and with us sending him yearlings that we feel physically and on paper have great chances of been early 2yr old types it’s certainly exciting times.
Robyn was with us at the sales and commented that he thought the yearlings we purchased look very well bought. They have been at Robyn’s in the paddocks and will be broken in, in the next couple of weeks. Robyn commented at the weekend that he really likes the Adaay colt, he said hes very well put together and looks a real strong racy type.
We’ve done this post as we thought it would be good to give owners and future owners a bit of an insight in why we buy the horses we do and to show there is a method to the madness. We don’t just head to the sales and buy horses, we always try and have an angle or a edge to give us the best possible chance of success at the right price.
Were hoping both yearlings can follow last years and this years 2yr old winners EPONA and AMBYFAEIRVINE’s footsteps.
